The Book of Mud

The Book of Mud is a story of earth and water, conceived by Ali Cherri, a Lebanese multidisciplinary artist. This manifesto explores the past and the ways in which mud inscribes itself physically. Cherri becomes a storyteller in conversation with writers in both English and Arabic.

The text was set, printed, and then photographed with mud. These photographs constitute the final book, that is double bound to separate the English and Arabic versions. Artefacts, collected and encased in mudbrick, accompany the book along with a silkscreen print that visualizes a field of mudbricks drying in the sun.
